Before You Start
Block Blast! is an 8x8 block-clearing puzzle game. The rules are simple, but high scores come from keeping your combo multiplier alive — not from one big clear.
How to Play — Step-by-Step Guide
Download from the iOS or Android app store, or open the web version. No registration needed.
The board is an 8x8 grid of squares, starting empty.
Each round gives you three blocks of different shapes. Drag a block onto the board to place it.
Fill any complete row or column and it clears automatically.
You must place all three current blocks before the next set refreshes.
Clear at least once for several turns in a row to raise your combo multiplier.
If a turn clears nothing, the combo multiplier resets to zero.
The 3x3 square is the biggest threat. Always keep one clean 3x3 area on the board.
Keep the board around 25% full — enough space to work with, and a base to keep combos going.
The game ends when your remaining blocks can't be placed anywhere.

Core Mechanics
8x8 board
The board is fixed at 8x8 squares, 64 cells total.
Three blocks per round
Each round gives you three non-rotatable blocks. A new set only appears after you place all three.
Row / column clears
Fill a complete row or column and it clears immediately.
Combo multiplier
Clear at least once for several turns in a row to raise the multiplier. One missed turn resets it.
The 3x3 threat
The 3x3 square needs 9 connected empty cells. Without a reserved area, it can end your game instantly.
No time limit
There is no timer — take your time and plan.
Beginner Tips
- Clear at least once every turn. Keeping the combo matters more than one big clear.
- Keep the board around 25% full — not too crowded, not too empty.
- Always reserve one clean 3x3 area.
- Fill from the edges toward the center; handle corners first.
- Plan all three blocks before placing any of them.
Common Beginner Mistakes
| Mistake | Consequence | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Filling the center immediately | No room for big pieces later | Use the center only as a temporary area |
| Chasing one big clear | Combo breaks, multiplier resets | Clear at least one line every turn |
| Clearing the board completely | Can't start a new combo | Keep around 25% occupancy |
| No reserved 3x3 space | A 3x3 piece ends the game | Always keep one clean 3x3 area |
| Placing blocks on gut feeling | Pointless deaths, low scores | Look at all three blocks before acting |
